Berlin Tiergarten is characterised by its many green spaces, parks and central location in the heart of the metropolis. The name stands for both the district and the city park, which occupies a large part of the entire district. This is also where the annual Berlin Marathon starts.
But it is not only the many green spaces and the central location that make Tiergarten stand out. This district is home to the government quarter with its impressive buildings, the Kulturforum, the modern Potsdamer Platz, the Zoological Garden and many other sights.

SIGHTSEEING

One of Berlin’s most important landmarks is the Siegessäule in Tiergarten. Climbing 285 steps you can reach the viewing platform, which rewards the visitor with a unique view over Berlin.
The impressive Schloss Bellevue is the official residence of the Federal President and lies directly on the banks of the Spree not far from the Siegessäule.
The German Bundestag also has its place in Tiergarten. The Reichstag building is one of Berlin’s most popular sights and offers unique architecture. The building was extensively renovated and fitted with a new glass dome, which is accessible to visitors.

Potsdamer Platz is also a popular place for tourists and visitors. Numerous restaurants, theaters, cinemas and a shopping center are waiting for you. The fastest elevator in Europe takes you high up to the Panorama point with an impressive view over Berlin’s skyline.
Also very popular is the Zoological Garden, with lions, pandas and elephants, and the Tempodrom, an impressive event hall.

SHOPPING

Friends of Shopping come to Berlin Tiergarten, because two of the largest and most popular shopping malls of the capital are located here, with countless shops of all kinds.
The new Mall of Berlin at Leipziger Platz, right next to Potsdamer Platz, contains more than 270 shops and restaurants on four floors.
In the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden you can enjoy the perfect central shopping experience with over 130 shops. In the meantime, 30 restaurants, bars and cafés offer you a place of short relaxation.

CULTURE

The Berlin Kulturforum near Potsdamer Platz is a Mecca for visitors with its museums, concert halls and libraries. The institutions are grouped independently and form a centre of culture.
The Museum for Film and Television, known as the Deutsche Kinemathek, has a comprehensive film archive.

A visit to the Berliner Philharmonie is also a must for every culture lover. Not only the musical masterpieces, but also the impressive architecture of the Philharmonie fascinates visitors during the regular concerts.
In the evening you can visit the Tipi am Kanzleramt. In this unique location you can enjoy theatre, shows and musicals by young and famous artists.

RESTAURANTS

Regional dishes are served in the Café am neuen See directly in the Tiergarten Park. Here you can experience German cuisine in a cosy atmosphere. The beer garden also celebrates an annual Oktoberfest.
In summer, the Teehaus im Englischen Garten is also a great address with a view of beautifully landscaped gardens. The restaurant and the self-service beer garden are equally popular with guests.
The Tiergarten Quelle offers large portions and home-style German cuisine. The restaurant belongs to a private brewery, and is happy to serve its own beer.

PARKS

The Tiergarten Park is a green oasis in the middle of the capital. It is often compared to Central Park in New York. Whether picnic, ball games or a simple walk around the lake, here you can escape the big city for a day.
Another possibility to relax is the Fritz-Schloß-Park. On 12 hectares there is enough space for a sunny spot, and the park is at least as beautiful as Tiergarten.

TIME TO RELAX

The Sony Center is located directly at Potsdamer Platz and offers a cinema with international films, several restaurants, cafés and bars and some specialty shops for shopping freaks.
Every Saturday and Sunday the flea market takes place on the Straße des 17. Juni. Visitors love the flea market and the arts and crafts market.
