Berlin Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain became one of the most popular trendy districts in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In this creative and inspiring scene with its diverse residents there is a wide range of cafés, bars and restaurants.
In southern Friedrichshain you will find the highest club density in Berlin. Kreuzberg was officially merged with Friedrichshain in 2001, and the transitions are fluid.
Thanks to its many cultural facilities and sights, the district offers a wide range of leisure activities.
In addition to the well-known fashion chains, more and more individual, creative boutiques are settling here. Here you will find unique pieces by up-and-coming young designers of all styles.
Numerous green areas and parks complete the picture of the Berlin district. The many parks with sunbathing lawns are ideal for a small picnic in between.

SIGHTSEEING

One of Berlin’s most famous landmarks, the East Side Gallery, is located in Friedrichshain. You can find it a at Mühlenstraße.
Immediately after the fall of the wall it was already painted by several artists. Here you should plan a comfortable walk. Nearby is also the Oberbaumbrücke, which connects Friedrichshain with Kreuzberg.
The Mercedes-Benz Arena can already be seen from the Oberbaumbrücke. The multifunctional event hall offers a wide range of concerts, sporting events and musicals.

The monumental Karl-Marx-Allee runs through Friedrichshain as the showpiece boulevard of the former GDR. Friedrichshain is the perfect mixture of historical buildings and modern everyday business.

The Volkspark Friedrichshain is ideal for a stroll in the countryside with its ‚Märchenbrunnen‘, a small lake, hilly landscape and open-air cinema in summer.

SHOPPING

Friedrichshain offers a very special shopping experience due to its large number of independent stores and creative boutiques. Many young designers and alternative boutiques have settled around Boxhagener Platz. These are called ‚Ma Garderobe‘, ‚Maerz‘ or ‚Prachtmädchen‘ and offer great fashion, jewellery and accessories. At Boxhagener Platz, ‚Boxi‘ for short, there is also a popular flea market on Sunday.
For bargain hunters a visit of the Zalando Outlet is recommended. Opposite the East Side Gallery on the other side of the Spree you can shop for clothes, shoes and accessories at unbeatable prices.

CULTURE

The Karl-Marx-Allee in the Friedrichshain district is also particularly worth seeing. This was the most famous street of the GDR with numerous blocks of flats from the 50s, which have been preserved until today.
The magnificent Kino International in Karl-Marx-Allee still preserves the ambience of the East. This is the favourite cinema of many Berliners and a great premiere cinema. The preserved apartment blocks with the two dome towers of the Frankfurter Tor form a harmonious picture.

RESTAURANTS

The Sunday flea market stroll can be combined particularly well with an extensive brunch in one of the countless cafés in Berlin Friedrichshain, many of which are located in the immediate vicinity of Boxhagener Platz. In the Kurhaus Korsakow you can eat cake and watch passers-by.
But also in the evening the culinary well-being is taken care of. Especially the Simon-Dach-Straße is famous for its many bars and restaurants with regional and international cuisine. Here exotic delicacies meet well-known German dishes.
The Schneeweiß restaurant offers great food and wine as a change from the burger shops and the numerous kebab stalls.

PARKS

The 49 hectare Volkspark Friedrichshain offers an idyllic place for nature lovers in the middle of the city. Spacious meadows and numerous playgrounds for children distinguish the park. The beautiful café and restaurant ‚Schönbrunn am Ententeich‚ and the famous ‚Märchenbrunnen‘, which is decorated with stone fairy tale figures, round off the ambience.

TIME TO RELAX

A Sunday visit to the Berlin Village Market in the New Home is not only recommended for friends of culinary arts. At the Street Food Market, countless new stand operators as well as many well-known Berlin street food chefs offer their specialities. With live music and cocktails you can enjoy the culinary variety of the Street Food Trend at over 20 stands from all over the world.
In the beach bar Haubentaucher visitors can relax in the lounge area, enjoy culinary delicacies in the beer garden or take a few laps in the hotel’s own 20-metre-long pool.
